A self taught photographer and art director, Ernesto Sumarkho was born in Caracas, Venezuela, to a Venezuelan mother and Indonesian father. He is now based in Australia where he started his career in commercial art direction taking up photography as an art practice later in life.
His photographic work uses the medium as a tool to study the liminal space between reality and fiction. Allowing him to explore within it themes of identity, culture, nature and the subconcious with multiple layers of meaning.
At the core of his practice lies a deep fascination with the human experience and how identity, memory and mythology intertwine in the we images we create and stories we tell.
